Luangwa River Lodge is about 9-11 hours drive from Lusaka and 5-7 hours from Lilongwe. Follow signs to South Luangwa National Park (Mfuwe) from Chipata. The roads vary in condition, so please call or visit our website for up-to-date information.
From Lusaka take the Great East road to Chipata and then follow signs to Mfuwe/South Luangwa National park (9-11 hours). From Lilongwe proceed to Mchinji border then Chipata, and again follow signs to Mfuwe/South Luangwa National Park (5-6 hours).
Current Road Conditions

While some roads may still be in poor condition following the floods at the beginning of last year, there are no major reports of problems at present.

Entry Visas

By Air

Luangwa River Lodge is serviced by Mfuwe International Airport. Mfuwe International is currently serviced by scheduled flights from Lusaka, Lower Zambezi and Livingstone as well as charters. Transfer time by car from the airport is approximately one hour.
British Airways fly direct to Lusaka from London. South African Airlines fly via Johannesburg to Lusaka/Lilongwe from London.
All internal flights with Proflight Zambia can be arranged by Luangwa River Lodge. All airport transfers to the lodge are inclusive in our rates.

Airport Taxes

Zambia charges $25 departure tax per person on all international flights leaving Zambia and charges $8 departure tax per person on all domestic flights within Zambia. Please ensure that you have US dollars or Zambia Kwacha equivalent available.
Currency

If you are planning to bring cash, US dollars are accepted in most places and are required for visas and other taxes.
Be sure to bring notes with “large heads” notes with “small heads” are not accepted anywhere in Zambia. Use this handy online currency converter
